Transit

In December 2008, The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) held an information session to solicit input from local Lakeshore residents about a plan to replace the existing streetcar route with a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system.

The proposed changes would have a significant impact on the commercial strip along Lake Shore Boulevard especially in Mimico and New Toronto. A total of 100 stores would need to be demolished.

Subsequently, the Lakeshore Planning Council (LPC) held a number of public meetings to try and address the issue. The first meeting in February was dedicated to TTC staff that initially acquiesced and then rescinded the invitation to attend a meeting with local residents to explain their proposal.

A Transportation Planning Workshop was held on Saturday May 30th, 2009 at Twenty-Second Street School from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The workshop provided an opportunity for Lakeshore residents to learn more about local transportation issues and to propose improvements that will meet the needs of their community. The outcome of that workshop is available to view and download.
