On June 16 join the Lakeshore Ride for Renewables

to explore South Etobicoke's green energy projects by bike, with Sustainability Ontario Community Energy Co-op.

On June 16, 2013, the public is invited to help launch Toronto’s newest green energy co-operative, Sustainability Ontario Community Energy Co-operative (SOCEC) at the Lakeshore Ride for Renewables.  SOCEC will lead a guided bike tour of renewable energy installations and community power projects in Toronto's western waterfront neighbourhoods.  The ride is the co-operative's first official event and will provide an opportunity for members of public to discover green energy possibilities and to join the co-operative as a “founding 50” member.

Ride initiator and SOCEC board member Thomas Hasan explains, “We’re using the bicycle –a sustainable choice like renewable energy– to highlight existing and potential community energy project sites.”

The bike tour will meet at 11:30 am at the base of the Ex Place wind turbine and depart shortly thereafter on a family-friendly bicycle ride westward along the Waterfront Trail and residential streets into South Etobicoke neighbourhoods. The tour will stop at several renewable energy installations to hear insights and experiences by board members and sector representatives about Ontario's continent-leading Green Energy Act, the feed-in-tariff (FIT) program and community power as well as at potential project sites the co-op is exploring including what could be Ontario’s first solar-on-brownfield development.

When: Sunday, June 16, 11.30 am

Where: meet at the base of the wind turbine at Exhibition Place

Registration and directions: http://rideforrenewables.eventbrite.ca/#

Those interested to join the co-op but who can't attend the ride can become a member via the website at http://sustainabilityontario.ca/join.html

About Sustainability Ontario Community Energy Co-operative:

Sustainability Ontario Community Energy Co-operative was founded as a for-profit co-op in 2012, in the International Year of Co-operatives, by a group of Toronto residents passionate about community power. We are working to realize the co-op's first community power project in South Etobicoke and possibly Ontario's first solar-on-brownfield site.  For more information go to http://www.sustainabilityontario.ca/ or contact us via email at info @ sustainabilityontario . ca.
